For over 1,500 years Shaolin monks have enjoyed the benefits of Chinese tea with a meticulous process called the Gong Fu Tea Ceremony. This tea culture and technique brings out the subtle flavours of tea that is otherwise overlooked. It is similar to the meticulous process of enjoying a glass of wine by using the appropriate glass type and tools as well as employing techniques of swooshing, sipping, gargling, and smell.

The Gong Fu Tea Ceremony is much more intense as the flavour of the tea is dependent on many production factors such as as the quality, freshness, collection, processing, packaging, and handling of tea leaves. Furthermore, the personality and characteristics of the server also affects the flavour of the tea through his or her choice of tea ware, quantity of tea leaves used, and method of steeping the tea.
